Quality Policy

At Zanel EPIs de Raspa e Vaqueta, constant improvement guides the entire company towards total quality. It is our responsibility to promptly meet the needs of the market for EPIs de Raspa e Vaqueta made from bovine leather.

In order to make our quality process clearer, we inform you that:

Our leather is tanned, since we already purchase it tanned from suppliers (tanneries).

  1. The leather is trimmed, that is, we remove the less noble parts before the greasing process.
  2. It is lowered. “Reduced” is the process carried out by a lowering machine, where the tanned leather is adjusted to an average thickness of 1.4-1.70 mm. This operation requires a lot of mechanical resistance from the scrape or the vaqueta, where most of the poor quality fibers are discarded.
  3. Our leather is greased. The greasing process is carried out using a machine called a “fulão” (a type of drum) and has a capacity of up to 1 ton per operation. Essential oils and chemicals are added to this process to make the skin soft and to increase its useful life.
  4. The drying process is carried out in the sun, where the product loses almost 100% of the moisture acquired in the greasing process, keeping only the essential oils and chemicals. At this point, the leather becomes almost rigid.
  5. Softening process. This is when the leather is returned to the fulão (a type of drum) for 5 to 7 hours, depending on the origin and tanning of the WET BLUE. This process is necessary for the material to lose the rigidity acquired in the drying process.
  6. Final re-threading. In this process, with the leather in its permanent state and with humidity close to the humidity of the environment, the final assessment of the quality of the raw material is made.
  7. After all the processes above have been carried out, the leather arrives at the ZANEL factory where it is cut one by one and again manually selected before the final product is manufactured.
